NSW Family and Community Services Minister Pru Goward will announce her retirement from politics today.
After almost 12 years as the member for Goulbourn, Ms Goward says she will not be recontesting her seat at the next election.
Ms Goward has served in the Berejiklian, Baird and O’Farrell governments since she was elected in 2007.
“This was a difficult decision to make and one I make in the best interests of my family,” Ms Goward said.
“Until then I will continue to work hard for this great Government and my wonderful constituents.”
In her tenure she has worked in family and community services, social housing, mental health and was the state’s first Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Minister.
“My portfolios have involved complex social issues,” she said.
“They often do not get the media attention they deserve but are some of the most critical in government.
“They are tough and often filled with great sadness, but also with people who wish to take charge of their lives and just need a chance.”
