Australia’s biggest Officeworks is set to open in the bayside Melbourne suburb of Mentone.
The stationery superstore – which is replacing a Bunnings outlet built in the mid-1990s – will spread 6000 square metres.
Officeworks said this XL format is more than four times the size of a standard showroom.
At 3 Nepean Highway, on the south-east corner of Oak Avenue, Officeworks Mentone will sit at the top end of a big box and bulky goods strip, near retailers Rebel 2nds World, Reece Plumbing, Spotlight and Supercheap Auto.
The new Bunnings Mentone warehouse, which is twice the size of 3 Nepean Highway, is also in the vicinity, as are several car dealerships.
Wesfarmers controlled Officeworks was established by Coles Myer in 1994, reportedly using a concept adopted by US Chain Office Depot.
Nowadays, Officeworks – with more than 150 outlets – stocks furniture, computers and musical instruments, as well as stationery. It also runs in-house brands which compete with, amongst other trademarks, trendy Smiggle.
Officeworks said the Mentone outlet, about 21 kilometres south of the CBD, will stock more than 35,000 products. The launch takes place next Saturday, March 23.
