Geocon has claimed its second ACT Business of the Year Award in five years at the Property Council’s annual gala dinner in Canberra.
As one of the biggest private employers in Canberra and a serious contributor to the health of the ACT economy, Geocon’s continued focus on the ACT housing market is changing the way people in the region purchase property.
The ever-expanding property development business adds about $600 million to the ACT economy each year, firmly supporting Canberra’s workforce and its future as a city.
Since 2012, Geocon has sold or announced more than 4600 apartments in Canberra as well as 21,000sq m of commercial space.
The business now extends to the Iconic Hotels brand, car parking, property management and in-house construction.
Managing director Nick Georgalis said he was proud of his business achievements and was looking forward to making a bigger impact in years to come.
“We’re obviously very proud of what we do and the impact we are having here in Canberra,” Georgalis said.
“We’re re-defining what luxury apartment living means to people living, working and visiting our city and town centres.
“Canberra has changed a huge amount the last five years, and we like to think we’ve had a significant influence on how that has happened.
“The concept of a mixed-use precinct was completely foreign to Canberrans only five years ago – now we are building projects which fit this mould in every corner of Canberra, suited to people from all walks of life.
“Developing multiple projects that are high-quality, attractive and measuring up to what the Canberra community expects is challenging. But the team I have working across our business gives me confidence to keep pushing the boundaries for a city which future generations will be proud of.
“I’d like to thank the ACT Property Council for their continued support of Geocon and for the building industry in Canberra.”
In August, Geocon will release its 255-apartment Braddon project Midnight, which will also feature a luxury hotel and commercial space, in the heart of the city.
It will signal a tidal wave of releases for Geocon with Republic, High Society, Dusk (all Belconnen), Grand Central Towers (Woden), Metropol, Tryst, Envie (City), Aspen Village (Tuggeranong), and The Establishment (Gungahlin) all due for completion in either 2020 or 2021.
These developments will bring 2,745 apartments to Canberra, as well as commercial space, retail and food and beverage opportunities.
