Solar panels and energy efficiency are powering interest in a Balaclava development that skipped apartments in favour of three-storey townhouses.
But electric car charging facilities aren’t sparking the same response.
ICON Developments senior development manager Georgina Goldsworthy said they added optional solar panels and electric car charging facilities to their Inkerman & Nelson project after polling potential buyers.
“Buyers have loved the solar panels, we did a design survey early on in the process and asked what people wanted to see and that was probably the most popular item,” Ms Goldsworthy said.
The 27 townhouse project is more than 30 per cent sold, but only one person has shown significant interest in car charging technology — though all appreciate a 6.5-star energy efficiency.
A decision to forgo apartments at the site and instead offer mostly three-storey tall townhouses has also proven popular, with tri-level homes the “frontrunner” for sales.
“We could have put apartments there, within the planning regulations, but we felt townhouses were a better fit for the younger families and couples who want that vertical living in their own space,” Ms Goldsworthy said.
The development’s two-bedroom townhouses come with double-storey designs, offering about 100sq m living space on average, while the three-level homes offer an average 150sq m.
Designed by MA Architects, the project will have an industrial tone showcasing bricks and steel that reflects its past as a storage facility that sold firewood to locals from the site.
Space is accentuated by stone benchtops in the minimalist kitchens and a bench seat in the dining area.
Buyers are able to customise joinery and in some designs a multipurpose room can be configured as a retreat, study or nursery. Popular eateries and shops along Inkerman and Carlisle Streets are within walking distance.
Two-bedroom townhouses cost $1.07 million. Three-bedroom homes will set you back $1.285-$1.485 million.
Four-bedroom townhouses have a $1.495 million asking price.
