The largest retirement development in southeast Brisbane is well underway, with Aveo Group’s $224 million six-stage redevelopment in Carindale.
The existing Aveo Carindale retirement community located opposite Westfield Carindale was established in 1985 and will be redeveloped over six stages to deliver 432 independent living units and a 115-bed high-care facility to support Australia’s ageing population.
The $45 million first stage will comprise one, two and three-bedroom independent living apartments in two multi-storey contemporary apartment buildings, and will include consulting rooms to accommodate a GP, allied health and care professionals.
Other recreational and dining amenities available in the first stage include a restaurant, bar, gymnasium, outdoor swimming pool, movie theatre, library, games room, activity room and a beauty salon.
Aveo CEO Geoff Grady said the Carindale redevelopment was an important step in meeting the changing needs of existing residents and tomorrow’s retirees.
“When data suggests that 13.7 per cent of the projected population for Carindale in 2021 will be over the age of 65, redevelopments like Aveo Carindale are crucial to enable retirees to stay in their local area and in contact with their community social groups,” Mr Grady said.
“This community was constructed more than 30 years ago, so we’re looking forward to delivering a stylish and modern Aveo Carindale that will cater to the tastes and needs of our new residents and the next generation of seniors.
“Aveo Carindale sits on almost 3ha of land only 16km south of Brisbane’s CBD, which makes it the largest retirement development in the southeastern suburbs catchment area – being in such a desirable location, we’re not surprised that locals gravitate to the area and want to stay there for life.”
The first stage of the Aveo Carindale redevelopment is anticipated for completion in mid-2019, with the final stage due to be completed by 2028.
