WHEN you look towards the view of Cairns City from the kitchen of Brendan and Angela Maroney’s Mooroobool home, it seems so close you could almost touch it.
The pair, originally from Melbourne, have lived at the stunning, five-bedroom abode at 3 Richmond Court for eight years.
“We renovated it and landscaped the outside — it’s quite a steep block. But what drew us to the place was the space and the view,” Mr Maroney said of the modern house which features an elegant entry with crisp neutral interiors and stunning tiles.

“I think the kitchen where we have meals and we look out towards the city is probably my favourite spot — it almost feels like you can touch it.
Family commitments are behind the couple’s decision to sell the elevated 1006 sqm property.
Mr Maroney said such is the pull of the location, he abandoned plans to build on a piece of land at Trinity Beach after spotting the home soon after arriving in Cairns.
“After a few times getting caught in the traffic (from the northern beaches) especially if you’ve got a bit of rain, it really slows things down. This house came up and I thought this is so close to the city, it is not going to get flooded out, and it is only a few minutes and you’re in the city or wherever else you need to be,” he said.
The spacious Mooroobool home
“It’s a home more suited an older family with teenagers. Because of the sloping block it’s not good for little kids but older kids, they want a place to hang out in, to be able to entertain in and they don’t have to play football and cricket, if they want to do that they can go to a park.”
“It’s shame we have shift, really.”
FNQ Hot Property agent Nathan Shingles said the light-filled interiors with a relaxed, coastal style and a large outdoor alfresco deck enchanted everyone who walked through the doors.
“This is a home designed to cater for the needs of the busy family who seek a healthy work/life balance — it is easy to care for, inside and out, the focus is on leisure and relaxation with minimal chores,” he said.
“Located in a sought-after pocket of Cairns in a quality neighbourhood surrounded by high-end homes, this is a family-friendly location, central to everything yet benefiting from excellent privacy and serenity in this coveted cul-de-sac.”
