With two of their four children having recently left SA to study, Dr Prabhath Wagaarachchi and his wife Enoka are regretfully saying farewell to their grand Ashton home of the past 10 years.

“It’s a bit too big for four people,” Dr Wagaarachchi says of the luxury home known as Delamere. “I didn’t initially think we would sell it … but I guess it’s one of those things in life where you need to keep moving. It’s provided everything we wanted for our family, our extended family and for friends from the UK and Sri Lanka. It’s a great entertainer, and it’s really a great place to be. In winter, although it’s cold, it has a different type of beauty to what it is in the summer, spring and autumn, when the trees change colour.”

Aside from its proximity to the city – only about 25 minutes away via several different routes – Dr Wagaarachchi says other standout features of the stunning 1.84ha property include its tennis court, swimming pool, sweeping views from every room, atrium, garage, manicured gardens and expansive driveway.

“Once you drive in, you feel as though you’re cut off from the rest of the world and yet you’re still so close to all the places where you want to be – the local wineries, Burnside Village, Magill and Uraidla, with its restaurants,” he says.

Dr Wagaarachchi expects the property to appeal to larger families who enjoy sport and entertaining. “It could also attract people who might want to set it up as a business – perhaps as luxury accommodation as an Airbnb.”

The 1982-built home also boasts underfloor heating, reverse cycle ducted airconditioning and two open fireplaces.
