It wouldn’t look out of place in the Hollywood Hills or Palm Springs but this immaculately 1950s modernist home is bang in the heart of Torrens Park, Adelaide.
Complete with stone walls, a flat roof and oversized windows, the 8 Ford Ave property is a prime example of mid-century modern architecture and selling agent Matt Smith says the market is loving it.

“Interest has been strong — we’ve had really good inquiries from genuine buyers and also those who are just interested in mid-century architecture,” he said.

Mr Smith, who works for Klemich Real Estate, said the home’s first open attracted 48 groups — about three times the amount he would normally expect in the area.

The three-bedroom property was also Adelaide’s second most-viewed listing on realestate.com.au last week. It came in behind a 10-bedroom 1880s former school in Aldgate at 160 Mount Barker Rd.
The Torrens Park retro home is set on a 933sqm with an in-ground swimming pool and established gardens.

Mr Smith said none of the groups that had viewed the home so far had mentioned demolishing and rebuilding on the site — instead they had all planned to live in the home as it was.
“Retro homes are very popular among Adelaide house hunters at the moment,” he said, adding they tended to attract a wide mix of buyers, including families and downsizers depending on the size of the house.

An added attraction of the Torrens Park property was its immaculate presentation, which came down to the vendor who had a special interest in mid style and furniture, Mr Smith said.
Some of the home’s other features include solar panels, a fireplace, reverse-cycle airconditioning and polished oak floors. It also includes an immaculately presented retro-style pink and black tiled bathroom.

The floorplan is spread over two levels with one bedroom privately located downstairs along with a cellar.
Upstairs is a spacious lounge/dining kitchen zone that opens to a balcony and veranda. There are also two more upstairs bedrooms.
