Socceroos and Huddersfield Town star Aaron Mooy is booting his Yarraville penthouse for a discounted price.
The midfielder is asking $800,000-$880,000 for the three-bedroom pad in the western suburb’s tallest residential building — less than the $914,000 he bought it for off-the-plan in 2015, when he was playing for Melbourne City in the A-League.
Mooy made headlines for signing a £10 million deal (now worth AU$18 million) with Huddersfield in 2017, the year the club was promoted to the English Premier League.
The figure was a record for an Australian player at the time.
Huddersfield was recently relegated to the English Football League Championship, with Premier League clubs reportedly now chasing the 28-year-old’s signature.
Biggin & Scott Yarraville selling agent Matthew John said Mooy had planned to live in the sixth-floor pad at 608/125 Francis St, but moved overseas before it was finished.
“He wanted something close to the city and easy to get to training from, and something pretty special too,” Mr John said.
The agent said Mooy initially rented out the near-new property before unsuccessfully listing it with another agency earlier this year, and had since adopted a more “competitive price point”.
“He understands the market’s changed from when he originally purchased it,” Mr John said.
“He’d rather make sure it sells rather than sits on the market for six months.”
He said the “one-of-a-kind” apartment boasted 200-degree views taking in the city skyline and a nearby golf course, which could be enjoyed from a large wraparound balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows.
They were unlikely to be built out too — Mr John said zoning regulations limiting most new Yarraville buildings to two to three levels were now in place.
“The balcony is almost equivalent to the floorplan, so the apartment has that indoor-outdoor flow,” he said.
“The location is great too — you’re about 600m from Yarraville’s train station and village.”
Investors, young professionals and even families are eyeing the abode, which also offers a kitchen packed with European appliances, timber flooring, high ceilings and two secure car parks.
