ELYSE Knowles is a model, social media influencer and 2017 The Block winner (with partner Josh Barker).
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
Bayside, in a single-fronted miner’s cottage built in the late 1800s. We (she and carpenter partner Josh Barker) are new to the area and love living near the beach.
HOW MANY HOMES HAVE YOU BOUGHT AND SOLD?
We have bought two homes ourselves. We have sold one and are living in the second one. Plus, obviously, we also sold the house we worked on for The Block (for $3.067 million to comedian Dave Hughes).

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR HOME?
The character. We plan to renovate the house and keep the historic elements while updating it with fresh, contemporary design out the back.

WHAT HAVE YOU CHANGED ABOUT YOUR HOME?
We have made it more liveable with white paint and added storage. We have also removed the concrete in the backyard and laid instant turf for our dog. Apart from that, we are waiting for our plans and permits to get approved before we start the demolition stage.
YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOME?
My family home. I spent the first 20 years of my life there and have so many great memories. It was on a big block that backed on to big, open paddocks, so every night after school we would play outside until the sun went down. We rode motorbikes and had horses at our back doorstep.
YOUR FIRST FOOT ON THE PROPERTY LADDER?
Josh and I bought our first home in Coburg. At the time I was 21 and Josh was 24. It was not only scary moving to a new side of town but we had intentionally bought the most rundown home we could find in the area. It was a test not only to live in the home while waiting for plans and permits, but then also while renovating. I’d have to say, showering outside in winter for six months wasn’t a highlight!
ARE YOU A KEEN OR RELUCTANT BUYER?
We are keen buyers. We monitor the market closely. It is forever changing and if we want to keep renovating, then we need to be in the know as much as possible. We are looking to buy another property so we can have two on the go.
BEST PROPERTY ADVICE YOU’VE HEARD?
Make sure you have researched the market, suburb and property. And be patient.
ANY FUTURE PROPERTY PLANS?
Josh and I have recently started a project development business together called J+E Projects. The goal is to do at least one renovation/extension project each year and eventually three projects every two years. Josh loves building and I love styling, so we really complement each other. Renovating houses is like a hobby
