Carpenter Tim Clark is a contestant, with half-brother Mat Cassim, on Channel 7’s seventh and current season of House Rules.
Where do you live?
In Thornbury with my wife and daughter. My wife purchased this house for me to renovate, as I am a chippie by trade.
What property do you own?
Just the Thornbury home.
What do you love most about your home?
There are no large buildings looking into the backyard, so it is nice and private. It also has a nice size backyard for my daughter and it’s in a great area close to the shops and schools.
Have you changed anything?
Our home hasn’t been touched for a very long time. It’s in desperate need of a reno and that is why I entered (renovation show) House Rules with my brother Mat, who is also a chippie by trade. It would be an understatement if I said I wasn’t excited to finally see the house upgraded (during the show).
Most memorable home you’ve lived in?
The family home in Plenty. I have a lot of great memories there, growing up with my brothers. My dad’s house in Yarrambat would be a close second. We used to ride motorbikes on the 17-acre (6.8ha) property and it also had a pool, spa and tennis court, so it made for a lot of fun times as I got older.
Your first foot on the property ladder?
A three-bedroom brick home in Watsonia North. It was a great house and the perfect entry into the market, but we wanted to be closer to the city so we sold not long after I had fully renovated it.
Are you a keen or reluctant property buyer?
Keen, but I’d be a lot keener if I had the cash! I love property. It’s a great interest of mine. If I was younger and needed a career change, I’d be in real estate, for sure.
How many homes have you ever bought and ever sold?
Bought three and sold two.
The highlights of your property journey?
Finishing off the renovations at our previous house. I had a lot of challenges throughout the journey, so it was great to finally get it done.
Living in a half-finished house with no kitchen.
Best property advice you’ve heard?
Buy and sell in the same market.
Tips for homebuyers?
Always do your homework. Know what properties are worth in the area you’re trying to buy into. And if you find that long-term family home you love, don’t let it slip away for a few thousand dollars.
Future property plans?
My dream is to flip homes. I’m really excited to be able to get a taste of what that would be like in a full-time capacity when we get stuck into other contestants’ homes on House Rules.
