6 Daryl Place, Highbury is offered to the market for the first time in 34 years.

Built in 1985 with over 56,000 bricks and hand selected Carey Gully stone, this Tudor-style manor is one of just three of its kind in Adelaide.

It could now be yours, with the property, at 6 Daryl Place, Highbury, offered to the market for the first time in 34 years.

It is for sale through Thomas Real Estate and has an asking price of $895,000 to $980,000.

Vendors Dorothy and Joseph Zanchetta said the design of the house had been a vision of theirs for many years – long before they found the right block to build their dream home.

“We came across a similar style in a magazine, and as far as I know, it’s one of only three of its kind here in Adelaide – the other two being in Pasadena and Stonyfell. I guess they must have seen the article, too.

“It’s a modern take on the Tudor, I believe the style is called a Tudor Manor, and it’s a design that just doesn’t age.

“In our design, the interior was to be grand but comfortable with open spaces and close to proximity to everything.

“The bricks had to be the old burnt clinker brick there were 56,000 used in the build. We even sourced our own stone that was hand picked from Carey Gully quarry.”

The stone was layed by Mr Zanchetta over three years of weekends, while his wife Dorothy would provide the umbrella for shade in summer and cover from rain in winter.

“We wanted a home where we could entertain with plenty of space both inside and out,” Mrs Zanchetta said.

“Over the years many a great party was had, with lots of dancing. We even utilised the garage for some parties with a marquee set up on front platform to provide extra seating.

“It was a perfect setting for our daughters wedding with the garden planted with hundreds of white petunias. House and garden resembled a fairyland of white tulle and flowers.”

The home’s garden has also provided the family with fresh produce, vegetables, and fruits, including cherries, figs, plums, apricots and olives – all used in preserves or to give away to friends and neighbours.

The creation of a sizeable cellar was also a must.

“Joe loves to make his own wine. He has received many awards of gold silver and bronze for amateur wine making, all judged by leading wine makers John Loxton and Steve Maglieri,” Mrs Zanchetta said.

“The garage and the second kitchen have also been the setting of many years of the making of salami and tomato sauce – Italian style – with lots of family and friends joining in on the experience.

“In his two workshops, Joseph has turned bits of wood into table and chairs for his grandchildren, garden swings, cabinets and so much more.

“Overall its been a wonderful home which has given us everything we have needed, including wonderful neighbours and great Christmas festivities in the middle of the street.”
