There was interest all the way from Dubai in a two-bedroom Rodd Point house, but in the end it was interstate buyers from North Queensland who won the keys.
The property at 3 Duchess Ave close to the Bay Run was scheduled to go to auction on Saturday morning, but ended up selling prior on Thursday for $1.765 million.
Selling agent Fiona Hellams of Ray White-Drummoyne had around 50 groups through the inspections, even having eight through the week before Christmas.
What was most surprising was the interest from expats living in Dubai, who were looking to secure a place back to Sydney.
“Prices are much more balanced so people can afford to come back and live in Sydney,” Ms Hellams said.
There were originally three interested parties all around the $1.7 million mark, but it was the buyers from North Queensland who offered the most.
“They had missed out on two other properties prior to this one and are going to live in and renovate it over time,” Ms Hellams added.
“The numbers have really come out early this year. Things are affordable and it’s a balanced market so it’s a great time to be buying.”
The vendors had lived there for around 35 years and are moving out of the area.
It was a popular choice for many thanks to its location close to the Bay Run and character features like the polished timber flooring.
Ms Hellams also said it was important that would be sellers understood that even if you sell before or after the auction, it was all part of the auction process.
