Chambers Flat kitchen inspired by Better Homes and Gardens

Written by The ReReport

A LONG love affair with reading lifestyle and design magazines inspired this modern country kitchen.

Michelle Kelso and Rex Trent bought the property at 117-121 Sheils Rd, Chambers Flat, almost 13 years ago, and spent time renovating the home over the years.

The kitchen is the star of the home, and was inspired by Ms Kelso’s love of lifestyle magazine Better Homes and Gardens.

“I have been reading Better Homes and Gardens since I was 20 years old,” Ms Kelso said.

“I came across that (design) a while ago and I thought it was just beautiful, and perfect as I wanted country modern.”

It has now become her favourite room of the house, with herself and Mr Trent both very keen cooks.

“We both love to cook,” Ms Kelso said.

“The island bench in the middle is also very practical to sit and do homework with the children or having a glass of wine with a girlfriend.”

On a 0.81ha block, there is enough room for the children to roam.

“There is heaps of space for the kids to run around,” Ms Kelso said.

“Even our little ones have zoomed around on PeeWee 50s.”

The property backs onto a dairy farm, which adds to the country vibe.

“It makes it extremely quiet.

“You wake up to the cows mooing, and while being close to the city you have that nice country feel.”

The property also has a cabin-style office or retreat which has power and a phone line connected.

Ms Kelso said her memories at the property included her two sons growing up and time spent with friends.

“I remember watching them running around, playing spotlight at night, and having friends over for barbecues.”
