SANDY Bay Rd has been named as the most desirable street in the state, a report has shown.
An REA report on the 10 most-viewed streets, to be released today, shows Sandy Bay Rd’s appeal is wideranging, with the street also ranking as the sixth-most viewed road in the nation.
Nerida Conisbee, chief economist at realestate.com.au, said both the national and statewide street lists were dominated by addresses in expensive, premium suburbs.
“Sandy Bay is a suburb that we frequently see topping lists. We know that when people in Melbourne are looking outside of Melbourne, that of all of Australia Sandy Bay is the number one destination to look,” she said.
“Nationally, coming in at number one is Wolseley Rd in Point Piper, which is probably one of the most expensive streets in Australia. Its median price is $10 million and above. The placing of Sandy Bay Rd as number six shows how much Hobart property has grown in popularity recently.”
The data is based on nationwide property views over the past three years, focusing on streets that have had at least 10 property sales listings over that time.
It is the first time that REA has been able to look at data on a street level.
“We tend to find streets that have something quite spectacular about them,” Ms Conisbee said.
“They tend to be streets that have amazing homes and people are looking at them for ideas and inspiration – and perhaps to have a stickybeak as well.”

One Sandy Bay Rd property attracting plenty of clicks is a 1980s penthouse built by renowned Tasmanian architect Ray Heffernan.
The three-bedroom, modernist-style home is listed for sale with a price tag of over $2 million.
Listing agent Kim Morgan, of Charlotte Peterswald Property said: “The list is proof of what we’ve suspected and known for a long time, that Sandy Bay is the premium and most desirable suburb in Tasmania.
“This home is fairly unique because of its attributes, because of its size being 25 squares, because of its proximity to the harbour, its perfect river views and the fact that it’s a fairly exclusive building.
“You look at the architecture and the investment that has taken place in Sandy Bay over the past 100 years and it’s not surprising that a lot of people want to live down there.”
