Written by The ReReport

BIRD enthusiasts rejoice! Flinders Park’s The Bird Place is up for sale and set to give buyers plenty to tweet about.
A treasured family undertaking for more than 50 years, vendor John Turner is on the hunt for a new custodian to take over his home-run business at 95 Holbrooks Rd, as well as approximately 2000 birds.
To sweeten the deal, he is offering to work an entire month for free to help the future owners find their feet.

The sale includes all aspects of the business, as well as a three-bedroom home with a formal lounge and eat-in kitchen on a 858sqm block.
It’s a hard sale and not really something I want to do but rather something I have to,” Mr Turner said.

“That said, I’m not going to sell to anyone. It has to be the right buyer; someone who is as passionate about birds as I am.
“And to help them out, I’m happy to stay on for a month for free – or a little while longer if they want me to.”

Mr Turner, who has been working full-time at The Bird Place since he was 13, said he was selling to spend more time with his family.
A decision, he said, had many been made with a heavy heart.

“My mum and dad started up the business 52 years ago and it has been a family business ever since. Even my brother and sister worked here at some point,” Mr Turner said.
“We started with a few birds and built our way up by breeding and buying birds.
“To date, I have around 2000 species here, including parrots, sun conures, Indian ringnecks, rosellas, canaries, finches, budgies and love birds.
“So it’s been a very good business and, to be honest, the idea of selling makes me feel sick as it’s been my life and passion for so long.”

Mr Turner said buyers needed to be aware they would need appropriate bird-handling licences to run the business.
The property is for sale without a price guide through Gary J Smith Real Estate.
