The former Ambassador Hotel wedding chapel at 51/325 Nepean Highway, Frankston is still seeking a buyer.

Three buyers were vying for a Frankston icon after it passed in at a bargain $600,000 at auction on Saturday.

The former Ambassador Hotel wedding chapel at 51/325 Nepean Highway — which was once owned by rich lister developer Harry Stamoulis — had been quoted at $600,000-$660,000 before going under the hammer.

It was also auctioned late last year with more substantial hopes above $1 million, with the vendor since slashing the asking price out of determination to move on from it.

How could buyers not fall for those stained-glass windows?

Hocking Stuart Frankston selling agent Anthony Sansalone said he was negotiating with three parties interesting in giving the building, with striking stained-glass windows, some love after the pass in.

He anticipated a deal would be done during the week.

Each were considering the rare red brick property for different uses, including turning it into a bed and breakfast or a cafe.

The property offers up to 10 bedrooms.

Mr Sansalone said the generous asking price “for such an iconic Frankston landmark” was a major drawcard.

Fellow listing agent Aaron Froling said many Frankston residents had been married at the chapel during its 1980s heyday.

Since Mr Stamoulis sold it about a decade ago, punters had proposed everything from turning the building into a synagogue to a “gothic-themed gentleman’s club”, Mr Froling said.

The online listing trumpeted it as having “myriad options including hospitality (and) medical surgeries”, subject to council approval.

The property is at “the gateway to Frankston”.

CoreLogic records show the property last changed hands in 2017 for $462,000. The investor buyers went on to renovate and restore it.

The property offers 500sq m of land “at the gateway to Frankston”, a winding staircase, up to 10 bedrooms and 10 parking spots.
