This living area is breathtaking.

AT 124 years old this Lutwyche residence has stood the test of time.

Owners Brownwyn and James Wruck bought the 46 Florrie St house 15 years ago and set out to restore it to her former glory.

The front of the house is humble.

“We like that it was like an old country home,” Mrs Wruck said.

“We raised the house and stripped off all the enclosure off the verandas, restored the wrought iron railings and restored the house the original layout.

“This meant it had no plumbing and no kitchen, because back in those days they had an outhouse and a kitchen that was a separate building (because) those little buildings used to burn down a lot.

“I lived for some years without a kitchen while we restored the property.”

The couple restored the wrought iron railings.

The bedrooms and living areas upstairs now remain in the original position, and a veranda has been enclosed down one side of the house.

This is now a study, ensuite, playroom and main bathroom.

Off the back of the house is the kitchen.

The couple also built in underneath the house, adding a guest bedroom, media room, wine cellar, sewing room, bathroom, rumpus, workshop and laundry.

There is a bar for entertaining guests, or perhaps your own nightcap.

However, Mrs Wruck’s favourite space in the house was her ensuite.

“I’ve moved the claw foot bath which we had resurfaced from the main bathroom into the ensuite and that’s an aspect I’ll miss the most,” she said.

“The study is at the other end (of the room) and I’ve got a screen so I can watch a movie while I’m in the bath. It’s like a little retreat.”

Mrs Wruck said the location of the property had been great for raising a family.

“Our kids went to Holy Cross, the primary school there. It’s a beautiful community and I’ve made long term friends in Lutwyche.”
