This grand house looks old but its not – it is just 22 years old!

BUILT on the site of General Douglas MacArthur’s home during the Pacific campaign, this ornate Victorian-style home is one of the most admired residences on the Brisbane River.
Owned by doctors Chris and Tania Bradshaw, the grand riverfront estate was constructed in 1996, and comes with a five storey-high turret and dome which opens up for stargazing.

It has its own turret

“It’s the kind of house Walt Disney would have built if you asked him to build a Queenslander,” Dr Chris Bradsahw said.
“It’s like living in a luxury resort every day.”
The landmark home at 50 Dauphin Terrace in Highgate Hill comes with seven bathrooms, two studies, four bathrooms, room for five cars and a pool.

Nareke may only be 22 years old but this property is packed full of traditional features

Called Nareke, it sits on a grand 3923sq m block, and makes an elegant statement with its high ceilings, ornate fretwork and views across to the University of Queensland.
Like a luxury hotel, it has piped music throughout and is located within it’s own private rainforest.
There is also the option to buy extra lots to its north and west.

Dr Tania Bradshaw said the grand house reminded of her childhood in England, where she grew up in a period house with grand high ceilings and elegant rooms.
“It’s been the most wonderful family and party home but it is now time to downsize,” she said.

“The house is often admired by passing boats as they cruise on the river with tour boats slowing down to allow the people to admire the house.”
The house, which includes two self-contained flats, has just undergone a huge makeover with no expense spared.

It is listed with Ray White New Farm agent Christine Rudolph, who said the residence came with 60m of riverfront and the option to buy approximately 30m more from the State Government.

“The house has a fairytale breathtaking appearance that leaves admirers in awe,” Ms Rudolph said.
“Considered one Brisbane’s finest waterfront mansions, Nareke is a residence of impeccable quality and timeless distinction.”
Other features include an electronic boat lift to raise a speedboat out of the water, a gas heated pool and a pontoon that has been anchored by a stainless steel cable in case of future flooding.

The property also has ducted air conditioning with separate temperatures selectable for each bedroom, living room, dining room, lounge, granny flat, and guest house plus a temperature controlled 2000 bottle wine cellar.
