The home at 10 Glengarry Place, Craigieburn, shot well past its expected sale price.

A Craigieburn family relocating interstate next week were left crying “happy tears” after an unexpectedly high-priced auction yesterday.

Lydia and Ben Chandler have far more in their budget to build a new home interstate after their first home at 10 Glengarry Place, Craigieburn, sold $55,000 above reserve.

After five years living at and renovating the four-bedroom home, they were rewarded with a $685,000 sale far above expectations.

“It was all a bit crazy, but luckily it jumped to our reserve pretty quickly and the happy tears started coming,” Ms Chandler said.

“I still can’t quite believe it.”

An outdoor entertainment space was part of the home’s attraction.

The hefty sale had been a welcome end to the nerve-racking lead-up to auction.

Auctioneer Daniel Diamantopoulos said the result had caught them by surprise.

“It was a ripper result,” Mr Diamantopoulos said. “This was the sort of result we saw six to seven months ago.”

A limited supply of “nice family homes on good sized blocks” had attracted seven buyers, and six who bid.

“You are generally finding about two bidders mostly,” Mr Diamantopoulos said.

A home cinema was perfect for the mostly family buyers attracted to the home.

A $500,000 opening offer was followed by a $100,000 rise, and quickly shot past its $630,000 reserve, but dragged on for about half an hour between $650,000 and the $685,000 sale price.
