One of the last things you would expect to see in the backyard of a classic inner city terrace is a swimming pool, but this home in Newtown delivers exactly that.

The three-bedroom Victorian terrace at 13 Newman St in Newtown has the same street appeal of many other terraces in the region, but comes with a long in-ground pool in the backyard.

The pool was put in 11 years ago by the owner, who has lived there for close to 40 years and had always dreamt of being able to go for a dip in the backyard.

Listing agent Nicholas Viewey of Viewey Real Estate said the vendor uses it almost every day for exercise, with it also proving to be a popular feature among prospective buyers.

“This is the first inner city terrace in 14 years that I’ve sold with a pool,” he said.

“The vendor has traded parking for a pool. We had one buyer falling over themselves because of the pool and the catchment.”

Only three other terraces in Newtown with a pool have sold over the past two years.

The property has a buyer’s guide of $1.4 million ahead of its February 2 auction and has been popular with younger families as it is in the Newtown High School of Performing Arts catchment.

“It usually isn’t a huge drawcard but in this case it seems to be as there are quite a few families kids in the area,” Mr Viewey said.

The skinny pool that runs down one side of the backyard also has a custom-built cover on it to prevent leaves from falling into it.
