Mickleham’s Tuscan villa at 65 Forest Red Gum Drive.

A Tuscan-style mansion that’s gracing the silver screen in new Aussie film Promised, starring Tina Arena and Paul Mercurio, has hit the market in Melbourne’s outer north.

The grand residence at 65 Forest Red Gum Drive, Mickleham has also popped up in “a couple of Bollywood films”, according to selling agent Ahmad Hashmi of SKAD Real Estate.

In real life, the sprawling house on a leafy 1.5ha block with its own lake is set to go under the hammer on December 15.

It has a $2.5-$2.7 million price guide that, if achieved, would make it one of Mickleham’s priciest residences.

Mr Hashmi said the house’s original Italian-background owner imported materials from Italy to build the house about 15 years ago — and it remained unique to the fringe suburb.

This authenticity undoubtedly appealed to the filmmakers behind Promised, which is set in 1970s Melbourne and follows two Italian children who are promised in marriage by their fathers.

Mercurio, best known for his role in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom, and singer-songwriter Arena play parents of one of the children in the romantic drama, which is now in cinemas.

Welcome.

The home’s original owner went on to sell it to the current owner, who “spent more than half a million dollars” transforming it to also reflect her French and Vietnamese heritage, Mr Hashmi said.

“She changed the carpet to expensive timber, changed the curtains, put in a new driveway and decorated the house,” he said.

“It’s very much French and Italian style.”

The property offers seven bedrooms, two kitchens and multiple living spaces across the 280sq m main house and a separate American-style barn.

Highlights of the main house include a grand twin staircase, an indoor pool and the American Oak kitchen.

The barn is set among cherry, apricot and lemon trees, and a man-made lake completes the property.

The 1.5ha property also features an American-style barn.

Vineyard potential?

Mr Hashmi said the film-star home had already attracted plenty of attention, with a “massive” 23 prospective buyers attending its first open-for-inspection and a couple of Italian-background families already putting in offers. He added the vendor was committed to going to auction.
