A NEWTOWN couple decided to cross the Barwon River and buy a stunning Belmont property on Saturday after selling their block of land in Newtown that morning.
Shelley and Stephen Gray outbid three other parties to secure 2 Peary St, Belmont at auction for $1.215 million, well above the $1 million to $1.1 million price guide.
Mrs Gray said she fell in love with the light fitting in the living area and just knew they had to buy the house.
“We have been living in Belmont in a street close by while rebuilding in Newtown,” she said.

The couple recently demolished their three-bedroom character brick house at 86 Prospect Rd, Newtown and had plans to rebuild but instead decided to go for something already established.
The now vacant 868sq m block of land in Newtown has an approved building permit with endorsed plans for an executive four-bedroom house with swimming pool.

2 Peary St, Belmont is in a blue chip Belmont location.

All the rooms are spacious.

Agent Dale Whitford said they sold the block of land on Saturday for an undisclosed price within the price guide of $1.5 million to $1.6 million before the couple purchased the Belmont property a couple of hours later.
The 987sq m property in Belmont has a stunning three-bedroom Edwardian house on it.
Whitford, Newtown agent Heidi Trempel said there were some really beautiful and big period homes in that little pocket of Belmont.
“Not that many in Belmont have them this big and it has rear access which is a bonus,” Ms Trempel said.

The Gray’s said they have a lot of family so the big rooms in the house will be ideal for them.
The house has a large open-plan living area at the rear of the house plus a separate formal loungeroom and a studio and double garage can be found in the backyard.
The record sale price in Belmont is $1.3 million for the 3065sq m property at 195 Roslyn Rd in 2016, according to CoreLogic.
Data shows the median house price in Belmont has jumped 12.4 per cent in the past year to $526,000.
