ONE of Mosman’s grandest estates, Kirkoswald House, is set to change hands for the first time in 26 years.
The vendors of 2 Kirkoswald Ave, Mosman, is seeking $14 million for the five-bedroom home built in 1873.
The heritage-listed house combines Victorian grandeur with modern design and is recognised as one of Mosman’s best and first ever homes, according to Ray White Lower North Shore director Geoff Smith.

“This house is about as rare as it gets for a traditional home like this in that part of Mosman. Most of these style of homes are usually found around Bradley Heads Rd,” he said.

Real EstateDespite being its heritage status, a modern extension has been added to the property.

Sitting on park like grounds, the 2163 sqm block has a colourful history. Kirkoswald House belonged to a Mr J Willis who was one of the first significant owners of property in Mosman.
In 1909, documents show there were a number of Torrens title blocks up for grabs around Kirkoswald House. Auctioneers HW Horning & Co were selling seven blocks of land that were once part of the sprawling estate. Mr Smith said there were records that Kirkoswald House was once used by the International Training Institute for classes. The school taught a range of courses.

The Ray White agent said whoever buys the home will have one of the most unique homes in Mosman.
“You don’t find houses like Kirkoswald House that sit on a block that big, especially single level homes on the Golden Mile,” he said.
The colonial homestead is heritage listed, but Mr Smith said whoever buys it can still make their own mark.
“A buyer is able to conduct renovations or add an extension to it. The only limitation is that they need to keep with the style of the home,” he said.
