Great street appeal helped attract potential buyers to 17 Austin St, Newtown.
A MANIFOLD Heights couple has forked out $945,000 for the chance to renovate an original character house in Newtown.
The pair bought into an exclusive pocket when they purchased 17 Austin St at auction on Saturday.
The loungeroom sits behind a return veranda.
The three-bedroom weatherboard house has a lovely period facade but comes with an original kitchen, an outside laundry and a second toilet outside.
McGrath, Newtown agent Will Ainsworth said the house was the latest project for the buyers who recognised its potential.

The kitchen is ready for an update.
“They buy houses and renovate them and live in them for a while,” Mr Ainsworth said.
“They will do a nice renovation.”
The modest house, which has one loungeroom, a separate kitchen and one bathroom, is on a 663sq m block that paves the way for a rear extension.
A vacant 868sq m block at 23 Austin St, Newtown sold for $1.02 million in August.
