Beloved children’s author Paul Jennings AM and his actor wife Mary-Anne Fahey are set for a new chapter after selling their Warrnambool home.

And the pair fittingly wrote their own story when it came to selling their 520 Hopkins Point Rd property, devising a unique sales approach for their character-filled home.

Jennings’ works include the Unreal!, Cabbage Patch and Gizmo series, while Fahey appeared on the Comedy Company.

Showing their creativity, the pair set an initial $1.35 million price on the home, then sent buyers around the twist by stipulating they would slash it by $50,000 a fortnight until a buyer emerged.

A local family made an offer within the first week in November and the deal was finalised on December 13.

Homeseeka Real Estate Warrnambool’s Paul Jellie said the property sold for close to its initially advertised range.

The unusual sales method created a sense of urgency as the buyers knew those with lower budgets would be able to pursue the home the longer they waited.

“It was Paul and his partner’s suggestion,” Mr Jellie said.

“And I think it did create a bit of urgency, so it was a good result.”

The 21.4ha property offered the best of both worlds for a sea or tree change, with extensive bushland on the block that came within 50m of the ocean.

“And the house itself is very unique and had a lot of character,” Mr Jellie said.

Extensive timber features, a library and even ceilings covered in letters of the alphabet were all part of the home’s charming inclusions.

A four-bedroom floorplan with multiple entertainment spaces joined a separate barn currently used as a studio and garage.

Jennings and his family are expected to move to another Warrnambool address in the main part of town.
