If you have ever dreamt of living in the Mediterranean, this Mount Gambier property might be an ideal compromise.

Currently on the market without a price guide, ‘Villa Mont’ at 20537 Riddoch Highway, Mil-Lel came from humble beginnings, designed and built by vendors Anne Hinkly-Tyler and Ian Tyler in 2005.

“We were inspired by our travels to India and Turkey, we were lucky enough to live on the Mediterranean and Turkish coast for a while and were inspired by the colourful interiors,” Mrs Tyler says.

“We actually sketched the idea on a serviette on the plane back from Turkey.”

Mrs Tyler says everything on the 2.02ha farm land had been built from scratch, including the luscious garden.

“When we bought the land we were (volunteering for) Trees for Life and we got our friends’ children to help plant all the trees for us,” she says.

“Then we put in the orchard, we were planning to do an English style garden but given the drought at the time we did Mediterranean style planting making it very hardy.”

The three-bedroom home has been built from local limestone with an eclectic interior, including an octagonal kitchen.

Key 2 Sale real estate agent Gail Richards says the property is ideal for homebuyers looking for a change of lifestyle and the ability to work from home.

“It has the studio accommodation, it could also be a bed and breakfast, retreat or hold events in the garden and courtyard,” she says.

“It’s a great area for growing produce, you could even have a boutique style restaurant, subject to council approval of course, but the owners have been running a successful bed and breakfast.

“The attention to detail throughout the home is outstanding, with each room heavily inspired by their travels and immaculately presented.”

The property also includes a workshop, garden studio, greenhouse, a 3hp bore and a 5kW solar system.

Expression of interest for the property are sought by January 18 at noon.
