70 Alexandra St, Hunters Hill, sold in six days for $6.75 million.
IF it looks like an interior designer has waved a magic wand over every room at 70 Alexandra St, Hunters Hill, it’s because she has.
Belinda Dowsett, an interior designer and renovation consultant who runs her own business, bminteriors, brought her extensive knowledge, experience and talent to the renovation of the house she shares with her family in the peninsula suburb.
The property, which has undergone a thorough transformation from tired and run-down to all-out Hamptons luxe has sold through Nicole Robertson and Nicolas McEvoy at BresicWhitney Hunters Hill for $6.75 million.
The property was to go to auction but spent six days on the market before a local family on the agency’s database walked through it at a private viewing.
“They had been looking for two years,” Ms Robertson said. “They saw this property and it was exactly what they wanted.”
70 Alexandra St, Hunters Hill: the original sandstone walls are displayed as a work of art in this inspired renovation that draws on the soft pale tones of the Hamptons style house.
The Dowsetts bought the property in 2011 for $2.7 million.
Ms Robertson praised Belinda Dowsett for her talent and commitment to bringing the circa 1867 residence back to life.
During an extensive renovation, the beautiful sandstone walls of the house were revealed under layers of paint, which gave an indication of the house’s historic significance.
Perfection was applied to every level of the renovation, which opened the house up to a north facing garden.
Ms Robertson called the strong sale a rare success story in the softer market.
“It’s a good news story when there’s lots of bad news (about the market),” she said.
