A unique Eric Nicholls-designed home in Roseville recently sold to a young couple in Melbourne for an undisclosed price.

McConnell Bourn agent Scott Phillips was unable to reveal the price, but it is believed to have sold around the $2.5 million-$2.65 million guide.

Mr Phillips said the family was relocating to Sydney and loved the home’s quality and location.

“They will probably live in it for the time being, but they are looking at doing some sort of renovation or extension to it,” he said.

The three-bedroom home is one of the few in the area designed by the late Eric Nicholls, a close associate of the famed Walter Burley Griffin and a noted architect in his own right.

Nicholls was an associate and business partner of Burley Griffin — the man who shaped Canberra and the north shore suburb of Castlecrag. Nicholls was also appointed Honorary Town Planner for Willoughby City Council in the 1940s

The house has many elements of Nicholls’ style such the usage of sandstone and quirky features like a built-in cocktail cabinet.

“It just adds a bit of Hollywood glamour to Roseville,” Mr Phillips said.

The humble north shore home attracted plenty of attention from fans of Eric Nicholls’ work, with groups coming from as far away as Canberra to see the property.

Almost 100 groups inspected the property over the four-week campaign, Mr Phillips said.

Earlier in the campaign, most of the interest had come from downsizers living on the north shore.
