The house at 84 Frasers Rd, Ashgrove, is for sale.

When you have a husband and wife that both work in the construction industry, you end up with the ultimate renovation power couple.

The house has been lifted and built in underneath.

Alex Humphries works as a graduate architect, and her husband Adam a builder, so when they decided the renovate the house at 84 Frasers Rd at Ashgrove, the outcome was destined to be incredible.

“It was a completely different picture,” Mrs Humphries said.

“It’s a 1930s home but there wasn’t a great deal of character.”

The bottom floor is a large, open-plan living space.

The couple lifted the house and built underneath with a large and open floorplan.

Upstairs they renovated and refurbished character features, such as the detailed cornicing.

Mr Humphries used Tasmanian oak throughout the house to create warmth.

“We laid a new Tassie oak floor (and) we have used Tassie oak throughout the house to add a bit of warmth through the joinery and staircase,” Mrs Humphries said.

“My husband is a real hardworking chap and very, very meticulous with a keen eye for detail.

“We’ve got an eat-in kitchen bench which was designed by my husband, little features like that make this house more custom.”

Tasmanian oak can also be seen in the bathroom.

They designed the house for a family, with their two little daughters, Grace and Isla, in mind.

“We opted for all of the bedrooms upstairs and living downstairs with a guest suite,” Mrs Humphries said.

“I love the downstairs living space because I can be cooking and the kids can be playing outside and I can see them.”

And around the window sill.

She said they had also added a deck upstairs to capture the surrounding views.
“My favourite space is the upper deck because you feel almost on top of the world up there,” she said.

“You’ve got a spectacular outlook of the hills and you can watch the sunset.

“It’s my happy place.”

The upper deck is Mrs Humphries favourite area.
