REAL ESTATE: 169 Brisbane St, Bulimba
TWINKLING lights illuminating this Bulimba Queenslander at night was a sight to behold when Denize Hutson first saw it seven years ago.
Mrs Hutson said she was attracted to how “pretty” it looked, and she and her husband Paul could see the property’s enormous potential.
One of the home’s living spaces.
They were living in a townhouse on Lytton Rd, and had been looking for a small property when they stumbled onto 169 Brisbane St.
The couple set to work, pulling each room back to its bare bones, salvaging what they could, replacing what they could not and uncovering more features of the home along the way.
Removing a false ceiling in the kitchen revealed a pressed metal ceiling.
“We got a surprise when we pulled out the false ceiling, and underneath were the original pressed metal ceilings,” Mrs Hutson said.
She said they bought the property with the intention of it being their “forever home”, so put a great deal of care and attention into restoring it.
There are VJ walls and decorative arched fretwork.
The kitchen was one of Mrs Hutson’s favourite spaces in the home, and it is the place where some of her dearest memories were formed.
Bi-fold doors connect the indoors with the outdoors.
“It’s a really easy kitchen to work in,” she said.
“That’s what I will miss most.
“My favourite times are cooking there with my grandchildren.
“They like to come around and cook sweets and cakes.”
If you look carefully, you can see the decorative ceiling roses.
Mrs Hutson said she will also miss her bedroom, which has a dressing room and ornate ceiling roses.
The dressing room off the master bedroom.
The front veranda has been the place where the Hutsons have held many a family Christmas party, as well as regular gatherings with friends.
“We have a fire pit in the front yard,” Mrs Hutson said.
“We would have friends around and enjoy that while sharing a bottle of wine.”
The front veranda is somewhere the Hutson’s enjoy spending their time.
