A YOUNG buyer is looking forward to moving in to her first home next year after securing a renovated Newtown property at auction on Saturday.
The woman was the only buyer to raise a hand during the auction for the semi-detached three-bedroom house at 14 Churchill Ave, even though several others seemed keen.

Buxton agent Julia Warren said the protracted negotiations eventually moved the price for the brick veneer home from the buyer’s $490,000 opening bid to $516,000 after the property was passed in at auction.
She said the young first-home buyer was from Melbourne and had been searching for a home in Geelong for some time.

The entry-level price for Newtown, where the median house price is $802,500, was the biggest attraction.
The recently completed but long-running renovation was a bonus.

Every room in the house has come under attention during the renovation, which included installing a sleek new kitchen, a modern bathroom and a barbecue room and laundry facing the north-facing rear deck, which activates the backyard of the 392sq m property.
Ms Warren said the property had attracted strong interest from first-home buyers and investors.
