A complete resort-style renovation to a two-storey Highton house has paid off handsomely at auction for the owners.

The four-bedroom house at 192 Mt Pleasant Rd sold under the hammer at Saturday’s auction after attracting strong bidding from three buyers who pushed the price $60,000 over the reserve.

A young Geelong family won the keys to the early 1980s property, after Buxton, Highton auctioneer Tony Moorfoot knocked it down with the price at $980,000.

Mr Moorfoot said the auction opened at $880,000, with bidding quickly surpassing the $920,000 reserve price.

“They really liked it — it’s a great family home with a pool, entertainment area. It’s top quality and a great location.”

Mr Moorfoot said the renovation had been completed over the past few years, with three living zones creating plenty of space, on top of the outdoor entertainment area and salt chlorinated swimming pool.

He said the owners had completely gutted and renovated the brick veneer house, which last sold in 2012 for $415,000.

“It was popular for a reason,” he said.

The contemporary style included high, square-set ceilings and glossy floor tiles, a skylight above the open plan kitchen and dining zone with stone waterfall benchtops.

The sheltered outdoor entertaining area has an outdoor kitchen, complete with an oven, fridge, and barbecue.
