Racing car driver Jason Bright has sold 8 Shaw St, Richmond.

Supercar racing great Jason Bright has sold his Richmond home featuring a souped-up garage.

Downsizers from Canterbury drove away with the three-level townhouse at 8 Shaw St, for an undisclosed figure within the $2-$2.2 million quoted range.

Kay & Burton selling agent Tim Blackett said the buyers had liked the fact the low-maintenance pad was “bigger than the average home in Richmond”, but didn’t come with as much land as the house they were leaving.

Jason Bright turned part of his large four-car garage into a games and trophy room.

The garage is unusually large for Richmond.

“They also liked the lightness and brightness, the proportion of the rooms, the privacy, and the location on a quiet tree-lined street very close to Bridge Rd and Swan St,” Mr Blackett said of the buyers.

The home’s big four-car garage was also a drawcard throughout the selling campaign.

Bright had transformed part of it into a man cave and games zone, a display room for his racing helmets and trophies, and a study.

The 46-year-old and his wife Lucy had owned the property since 2012, when CoreLogic records show it fetched $1.575 million, and raised their two children there.

Bright retired as a full-time Supercar driver at the end of the 2017 season, following a decorated career comprising 20 wins, including the 1998 Bathurst 1000. He now runs trade and services business Taskforce Australia.

His townhouse was designed by renowned architect Stephen Akehurst in the late ‘90s and offered 260sq m of internal living space, including the garage.

The first floor features a living, dining and kitchen zone, plus a north-facing terrace with a built-in barbecue, and three bedrooms occupy the top storey.
