MOST of SA’s coastal holiday homes are booked out for the Christmas and New Year period but you can still bag a cheap getaway at one of the state’s many holiday parks.

G’Day Group and Discover Holiday Parks’ Grant Wilckens said there were still budget-friendly options at holiday parks around the state. “It’s always a busy time of year but there are still some fantastic opportunities available,” Mr Wilckens said.

“One of the benefits of a holiday park is you can go with some family or friends and one of you might have a budget of $150 per night and stay in a cabin, whereas the other family might go for a powered tent site for as little as $35 a night, but yet you’re all sharing the same facilities and getting away together.”

Mr Wilckens said gathering as a family in a holiday park was part of many South Australians’ Christmas tradition.

“A lot of people don’t want to be the host at Christmas, so many families will go to a park and they’ll spend Christmas Day in the camp kitchen while the kids play in the pool or play cricket,” Mr Wilckens said.

Mr Wilckens said even inland parks allowed people to hit the water this festive season.

“The Barossa Valley, in particular, has an awesome resort pool and a big water park, and these water features are great for families,” he said. “We focus strongly on the facilities for the kids because this gives adults time to reconnect and relax.”
