Struggle street for these two.
IN a near-Block-first, some renovating gets done on The Block.
And it seems it’s not what everyone signed up for.
There’s fears around the place that this week’s challenge rooms won’t all get completed.
And it seems most of the couples are just keen to go home, sell their apartments, and make their promised money.
There’s a lot of whingeing from everyone about having to renovate this week.
It seems like it’s a new experience for all involved.
Even the one bloke who has worked hard all show — the normally chipper Norm — is daunted about finishing on time.
He and Jess have the master bedroom and walk in wardrobe, and we’re told it’s a huge task.
“I love the Block but I just can’t wait until it’s all over now,” Norm says.
“I just want two days off.
“I’m just exhausted all the time now.”
Spence offers to help hang some doors for him and Norm says that could be the difference between finishing and not finishing.
Norm is shattered with loads of work to do.
Lying in bed, Sara confesses she is looking ahead to next week, where she and Hayden drew the short straw and will have to renovate a hallway, laundry, powder room and study.
She knows she will be calling on favours from the other Blockheads, but it seems that she may have left her run for goodwill too late.
Kerrie is convinced that if the shoe was on the other foot Sara wouldn’t help her.
And Carla and Bianca couldn’t be less interested in lending a hand.
Hayden being behind schedule hasn’t gone unnoticed by Dan who comments that there are two bathrooms being constructed this week and that he is coming second in the progress race.
“We have the battle of the two wet areas,” Dan says
“And right now the two netballers — with zero experience in construction — are absolutely smashing the project manager who does this every day of his life.”
But Sara and Hayden aren’t too fussed, pointing out to everyone that “in the real world” Hayden would be Dan’s boss.
Dan doesn’t understand it.
That aside, Dan can’t work out how the Sydneysiders are falling so far behind.
“More and more trades are going into that bathroom, but it’s like the Bermuda Triangle, they never come out,” Dan says.
Luckily, Hayden, has a secret weapon — some gun tilers from Sydney, who he has flown in for the job.
They spend most of the day standing around though, as Hayden’s plasterers haven’t finished and the room isn’t ready for tiling.
After a few false starts, the gun tilers prove their worth, waterproofed though the night and Dan’s in early to inspect, so they can push on with tiling.
The tilers aren’t stoked by how things are progressing.
