A luxe Hindmarsh Island home is the perfect spot for a weekend of swimming, watersports, fishing, birdwatching and relaxing, say Marta and Edward Skibicki.
The couple built the house 10 years ago, taking their time to create their dream home.
“We used to go to Goolwa to use the jet skis, and one weekend we took the jet ski across the lake through the channels and just fell in love with the peace and quiet over there, so we bought a block of land and built our dream there,” Mrs Skibicki says.
“It wasn’t built as an investment, we built this for us as our family holiday home, and we wanted it to have a contemporary modern look and be really functional and beautiful.
“It’s got a touch of luxury, and we used top quality materials throughout. Because my husband is a builder, we spent a lot of time making sure everything was done to a really high standard. We were building it for us so we didn’t take any shortcuts.”
The home is set over two levels and features four bedrooms, a games room, an open-plan kitchen and living area, a home theatre and numerous outdoor entertainment areas.
Set on a 1054sqm allotment with more than 30m of water frontage, Mrs Skibicki says the home can easily handle a crowd.
“We had so many great holidays and weekends here over the past 10 years,” Mrs Skibicki says. “Our son is a swimmer and when he was growing up he would have a lot of his friends and their parents over. We’d have a lot of people over and we found it could cater for a big crowd really easily. It’s a very comfortable place and is very open, but it offers a lot of privacy and space for everyone to get their own spot to relax.”
Mrs Skibicki says the home’s location is ideal, offering picturesque views the couple will miss greatly when they sell.
“We overlook a bird sanctuary, so there are a lot of birds around, and from the first floor we can see all the way past the houses to the Coorong. You can see quite far and it’s a beautiful view,” she says.
Mrs Skibicki says she hopes another family enjoys the home as much as hers has.
“It’s taken us a lot of time to make the decision to sell, but our lifestyle has changed and we simply don’t get to enjoy it as often as we’d like,” she says.
“I’d love to see a family buy it because it is very much a family home. It’s always been a very happy place for us.”
