Property developer Tim Gurner’s latest mixed-use development has been given the go-ahead in the cherished inner-Melbourne suburb of Collingwood.
The Warren and Mahoney-designed development will comprise 39 high-end apartments and adds $40 million to the developer’s expanding portfolio.
The boutique mixed-use development, which also marks the 23rd building Gurner has developed in his much-loved inner-north Melbourne precinct, was given the go-ahead following mediation with locals and council.
“Our relationship with council has been up and down over the years but we are now working really well together,” Gurner said.
The project, which is located at 368-374 Smith Street, is the developer’s third major project negotiated with the City of Yarra in the past six months.
“I’d like to think they can see how committed I am to delivering not just beautiful buildings but projects that support the area’s café and hospitality culture,” Gurner said.
“It’s no surprise I love Collingwood and Fitzroy for their unique urban character and in particular, the connection to the Foy & Gibson and JG Cole heritage architecture.
Gurner, who came in third on the Australian Financial Review’s young rich list this year, has expanded his combined project value to more than $5 billion with almost 7000 dwellings across 19 buildings in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
Known for his belief in quality offerings in the high end market, Gurner said the Smith Street project already has a number of registered buyers.
“Projects like this I believe will be very successful no matter what the market is doing.
“Our appetite for these boutique sites in Collingwood and Fitzroy remains incredibly strong,” he said.
Features include a communal rooftop comprising private spas, a pool, and individual retreats, as well as three retail tenancies at ground level spanning 268sq m in total.
